Geography for kids aged 8–12

The world map, turned into a place kids want to explore

In Atlaroo, every country is a character with a face and a story. Kids meet them on a world map, play quick map games, and collect a passport stamp for each country they learn. A few minutes a day, with Roo the kangaroo as their guide.

7-day free trial, then $7.99 a month or $59.99 a year. One subscription for the whole family.

How it works

Short, friendly, and a little bit every day

Atlaroo is built around small wins. A round takes a few minutes, so it fits between homework and dinner.

  1. Meet countries as characters

Tap a country on the world map and it says hi: its shape with a face, its flag, its capital and its neighbours.

  2. Play short map games

Puzzles, neighbours, flags and finding places. Wrong answers get a gentle hint, never a harsh fail screen.

  3. Collect passport stamps

Every country learned earns a stamp in the kid's own passport, and each finished expedition earns a special one.

  4. Keep a gentle streak

A daily streak with freezes earned by playing, and a weekly goal with no penalties. Nothing to buy to keep a streak.

The games

Four map games, plus a route to trace

The games use real country shapes, borders and flags across the 175 countries on Atlaroo's map, and they get harder as kids improve.

Shape puzzle: Afghanistan waits below the map, ready to be dragged into its place

Shape puzzle

Drag a country into its place on the map.

Who's my neighbour: Afghanistan's bordering countries are ticked off on the map, five of six found

Who's my neighbour?

Find every country that borders a friend.

Flag builder: the flag of Cuba half built, with colour choices for its stripes and triangle

Flag builder

Build a flag from stripes, colours and symbols.

Find it on the map: Tanzania found on the map of Africa

Find it on the map

Can you spot Tanzania without help?

Route trace: a dashed line follows the River Nile from the lake to the sea, with a finger-tracing prompt from Roo

Route trace In expeditions

Follow a river or a road with a finger, from start to finish.

Monthly story expeditions

Stories that travel through a region

Each month brings a new expedition: a story told through short animated clips with the country characters, games tied to the story, and a special stamp at the end. Past expeditions stay available.

Follow the Nile

From a lake in the heart of Africa to the Mediterranean Sea. Meet the countries along the world's longest river, then trace it with a finger.

  • Uganda
  • South Sudan
  • Sudan
  • Ethiopia
  • Egypt
Follow the Nile, stop 3 of 4: Sudan's character explains that the Blue Nile rushes down from the mountains of Ethiopia
Follow the Nile finished: a round passport stamp with the flags of the countries on the river

The Longest Road Trip

Drive the Pan-American Highway from Alaska to the tip of South America, with one boat ride across the Darién Gap.

  • United States
  • Canada
  • Mexico
  • Panama
  • Colombia
  • Peru
  • Argentina
The Longest Road Trip, stop 4 of 5: Peru's character says more than half of its people live along its dry coast
Route trace finished: You traced the Pan-American Highway, from Alaska to the south of Argentina

Download once, play offline. A grown-up downloads an expedition (each is 5 to 8 MB) and kids can play it in the car or on a plane.

For parents

Made for families, with grown-ups in charge

Kids pick their profile and play. They never type an email, a password or any personal details.

  • A parental gate

Purchases, settings, sign-in, downloads, links out of the app and account deletion sit behind a grown-ups-only number challenge.

  • No ads, ever

No adverts, no ad SDKs and nothing sold to kids. Streak freezes are earned by playing, never bought.

  • No third-party tracking

No analytics or attribution SDKs and no advertising ID. Games, the map, streaks and reminders all run on the device.

  • A parent dashboard

See each kid's countries learned, expeditions finished, streak and time played. Signed-in families can get one summary email a week.

  • Reminders you control

One family reminder at a time you choose, with a weekend mode. It's a local notification on the device, and it never guilt-trips.

  • Works offline

The map and the games work without a connection, and downloaded expeditions play anywhere.

FAQ

Questions parents ask

What ages is Atlaroo for?

Kids aged 8 to 12. Instructions are written and spoken aloud, so younger or slower readers can play too.

Which countries are in the app?

The map and games cover 175 countries. Some very small countries, mostly small island nations, aren't on the map yet. The flag builder covers the flags that can be built from stripes, colours and simple symbols, and more are on the way.

What languages does it support?

English only for now. We plan to add more languages later.

How many kids can share one subscription?

One subscription covers the whole family: up to six kid profiles, each with their own progress, passport and streak. Siblings never share a streak.

Do my kids need an account or an email address?

No. A grown-up sets up a profile for each kid with a nickname and an animal avatar, and kids just tap their profile. Signing in is for grown-ups, with Apple or Google, behind the parental gate.

Do I have to sign in?

The map and games work without signing in, and everything stays on the device. Sign in to keep progress in sync across your family's devices, to get the weekly email, and to download story expeditions.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The map and games run on the device, and expeditions play offline once a grown-up has downloaded them.

Which devices does it run on?

Android phones and tablets through Google Play. The iPhone and iPad version is coming to the App Store.

How do I cancel?

Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, so you cancel in your store account. The support page has the steps for each store. Deleting your Atlaroo account doesn't cancel a subscription on its own.

What data do you collect about my kids?

As little as we can. Without sign-in, profiles and progress stay on the device. When a grown-up signs in, kids' nicknames, avatars and game progress sync to our servers so every device matches. There are no ads and no third-party analytics. You can delete everything from inside the app. The privacy policy has the full list.
